An Abenaki heirloom, the Algonquin squash makes the perfect pie pumpkin. They are not pumpkin-shaped but rather oblong but we think their texture, taste, and storability are superb! They produce fruits with deep orange flesh that is sweet, nutty, and has a smooth texture. Plants produce productive oblong fruits that are green with a splotch of orange at the time of harvest. As they cure in storage they will turn a deep orange. Make sure to cure them properly and keep them in a dry warm place to extend your enjoyment of these fall treasures.
